2026 Holiday Calendar

Here's 2026 at a glance: every holiday and big day we count down to, month by month, with the federal days off and the long weekends they make. Recurring dates are worked out from their rules, scheduled ones like the Super Bowl come from the organizers' published schedules, which we keep up to date by hand, and our methodology explains how each kind is set.

Federal holidays and days off

11 federal days off land in 2026. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, most federal workers get the Friday before off, and when it falls on a Sunday, the Monday after.

Three-day weekends

2026 has 8 three-day weekends, one for every federal day off on a Monday or a Friday. Holidays that land midweek, like Thanksgiving, don't count here. Counting down to an ordinary one? Here's the weekend countdown.

Coming after 2026

These don't land in 2026, but here's when they're back.

How these dates are set

Federal holidays come from 5 U.S.C. 6103, and the days off follow OPM's rule for most federal workers. If you work somewhere else, your employer's calendar is the one that counts. The Federal Reserve Banks close on federal holidays and on the Monday after a Sunday one, but stay open the Friday before a Saturday one. NYSE keeps its own list, which adds Good Friday and leaves out Columbus Day and Veterans Day, and its early closes are the ones it has published. Moon phases, equinoxes and solstices are dated in US Eastern time, so one may fall on a different day where you are.
